Whitney Hancock

LPC, LMHC

Director & Therapist

Whitney Hancock is the Clinical Director and a licensed therapist with Dynamic Counseling and The Counseling Collective in Colorado Springs, serving clients both in person and via telehealth across Colorado, Indiana, and Vermont.

Professional Background & Expertise

  • Whitney holds two master's degrees in Mental Health Counseling, one from the University of Louisville and one from Southern Seminary, with prior business and psychology education from Baylor University.

  • She is licensed in Colorado (LPC) and Indiana (LMHC).

  • As a Certified Trauma Professional (Level 1), Whitney is highly skilled in addressing the effects of trauma, including relational and complex trauma.

  • She has completed specialized NCMEC training in supporting survivors of online solicitation and sexual trauma, giving her additional sensitivity and competence in working with deeply vulnerable populations.

Therapeutic Approach

Whitney’s work is grounded in evidence-based and experiential therapies, and she draws on multiple modalities to tailor treatment to each person:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): For processing traumatic memories, reducing distress, and restoring emotional balance.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Connecting with and healing inner parts of the self, especially for issues like depression or PTSD.

  • Couples & Family Therapy: She integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Imago relational therapy, Gottman methods, and attachment-based approaches to help partners and families rebuild trust, safety, and connection.

  • She also offers assertiveness training, especially for anxiety and high-stakes situations like court appearances.

  • Whitney is open to integrating faith and spirituality into her clinical work when requested, allowing clients to bring their full selves — including their values and beliefs — into therapy.

Client Focus & Populations

Whitney works with:

  • Individuals (adults & students) facing anxiety, depression, life transitions (moving, post-partum, job changes), and traumatic memories.

  • Couples and families, particularly those navigating relational trauma, disconnection, and attachment struggles.

  • People who prefer a relational, systemic, and trauma-informed model of therapy.

Personal Philosophy & Values

  • Whitney believes in whole-person care, seeing trauma not just as what happened to someone, but what lives inside of them — including in the body, the nervous system, and the relational world.

  • She values complexity in human experience, encouraging clients to hold grief and gratitude, pain and growth, simultaneously.

  • Her leadership in Dynamic Counseling is motivated by a vision of deep therapeutic connection, excellence, and accessibility. As she has shared, she created the practice to offer compassionate, high-quality therapy in welcoming, home-like settings. (Shout Out Colorado)

  • For Whitney, part of healing is helping people connect not just with their parts, but also with the systems around them — whether family, relationships, or community.

Outside of Therapy

When she’s not working with clients, Whitney enjoys spending time in the Colorado mountains — hiking, skiing, and exploring with her husband, her four boys, and her Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Evie.
